The seminar highlighted that the rising global penetration of electric vehicles (EVs) is reshaping the thermal management demands of the entire vehicle. With the disappearance of residual heat from traditional internal combustion engines, air conditioning systems must now handle the integrated thermal control of power batteries, electric drive systems, and cabin comfort. As a result, heat pump systems have become a key configuration.
In major markets, the penetration rate of heat pump systems has already exceeded 70% in Europe and is rapidly approaching 60% in China. Thermal management systems are evolving from simple "heat exchange" mechanisms into complex systems centered around energy efficiency, system integration, and intelligent control.
Outlook and Aspirations
Transition to Eco-Friendly Refrigerants
At the seminar,
Expert of Technical Center by SANHUA Automotive
provided an in-depth analysis of the technical challenges and future trends associated with the transition to mainstream alternative refrigerants. He emphasized that the evolution of thermal management systems has moved beyond a sole focus on energy efficiency, shifting instead toward a multidimensional balance of global warming mitigation, system safety, and cost control. Driven by electrification, environmental regulations, and overall vehicle performance requirements, refrigeration selection has become a key decision variable in OEM system architecture design.
Refrigerant choice is not merely a technical matter—it is the result of integrated considerations across system design, safety certification, regulatory compliance, and vehicle-level strategy. SANHUA has established multiple technical pathways tailored to various refrigerants and possesses full development and validation capabilities for systems using R1234yf, blended refrigerants, and natural refrigerants such as R290 and R744.
