CANNES RECAP | 世界电影市场日益复杂,中外合拍往何处去?

今年中国电影在戛纳电影节大放异彩,由胡歌、桂纶镁主演,刁亦男执导的《南方车站的聚会》更是入围主竞赛。但中国买家在戛纳市场却比往年更加审慎。在经历了对于各路影人来说颇为跌宕起伏的一年之后,中国这个全球最大的电影市场变得更加冷静、目的性更加明确、也更加专业。

This is a hot year for Chinese movies in Cannes as several from the country are selected, and The Wild Goose Lake, directed by Diao Yinan and starring Hu Ge and Gui Lunmei, even made its way to the main competition. However, the Chinese buyers in Marché are more chilled than in previous years. 





2019年仍然变幻莫测,中外电影行业和市场也从来没有停止进化。在中国,互联网和新媒体展现了强劲的相关性。以龙跃会员路画影业引进的《何以为家》和《小偷家族》为例,借力热门短视频平台宣传,两部海外艺术电影在广受好评的同时创造了票房奇迹,也反之推动了普通观众的观影视野和品味的改变。同时,新一代青年影人涌现,开拓了中小成本、特殊题材影片的领域,随之的票房成功也是新一代观众喜好转向的折射。此外,中国电影工业化体系也在逐步成熟,虽然动画和后期等领域仍在寻求更先进的欧洲技术支持,但本土团队已经逐渐开启对科幻等类型电影的尝试。

The year 2019 is still hard to predict, and the Chinese market and industry never stop from evolving, and strong relativity with the internet and new media is shown in this process. Take Capernaum and Shoplifters as an example, both imported by BTD member Road Pictures, the two arthouse movies reached a surprising-high box office by promoting on ChineseTiktok, and in turn, it broadened the horizon and taste of regular movie viewers. At the same time, the new generation of filmmakers is emerging, the following success of their works reflects the changing favors of the new generation of audiences. The furthered industrialization as well has allowed the local team to try out genre films like sci-fi, though they are still looking for technical support form Europe for animation and post-production.

 

大陆另一端,欧洲市场也在不断迭代,俄罗斯在2018年超越法国成为欧洲最大的电影市场,2019年这一趋势似乎仍将延续。欧洲出口至中国的电影数量和质量日渐提高,有些影片高歌猛击有些则石沉大海,这与中欧两地观众群体年龄分布、题材喜好等方面的差异息息相关。

On the other side of the continent, the European market is also undergoing evolution. Russia, instead of France, has become the largest film market in 2018, and it is seemingly to continue this year. The quality and quantity of European films exported to China have increased, while some triumphed and some without even made a splash. It is relevant to the differences in age range and content preference of China and Europe audiences.


但可以肯定的是,随着当前国际电影市场的形势日趋多变,海外与中国影人之间也依然缺乏对于彼此职业人脉和实质性“幕后”故事的了解,尤其是在内容合作方面。

One thing is for sure: as the current situation has become more and more complex, foreigners still lack substantial “behind-the-scenes”-knowledge and personal connections.


龙跃中欧制片人协会与戛纳电影节电影市场共同举办的中外制片人见面会于519日圆满结束。这已是两个机构的第四次强强联手,为中外影人在最具国际影响力的电影节期间搭建交流平台。来自大地电影、1905影业、Cinestaan等在内的53家海内外制片及发行公司参与了此次见面会,建立个人关系,并开启未来合作的机会。

This year for the fourth time "Bridging the Dragon” in partnership with the Marchédu Film has set up the Sino-International Company Meetings which was held in the afternoon on Sunday, May 19. The two organizations tied hands to provide a platform for filmmakers to communicate during the most influential international festival. Approximately 53 selected producers from global production and distribution companies like Dadi, 1905, Cinestaan, etc,  participated in the meetings,  in order to build personal relationships and open the chance of future collaboration.

 


今年,龙跃戛纳制片人见面会的申请人数进一步增加,收到了超过200家公司的申请,更是有诸多世界顶级制片、发行公司报名参与。这也从侧面表明,对于越来越多的产业人士来说,中外合作仍然是非常重要的目标。尽管与中国合作是一个长期的过程,但各个领域的电影人仍在笃定坚持,期待进一步的结果。因此,像制片人见面会这样的活动被视为中外合作入门或后续活动的奠基石。

The association acknowledges a further increase in the number of applications, this time exceeding 200, with applications from many world-class production or distribution companies. It shows that working with China is still an important goal for more and more players that are though aware of the long-term process and the demand of strong commitment and time-consuming efforts, and filmmakers in all roles are looking upon on the future outcomes. Events like Company Meetings are thus seen as an important step of introduction or follow up.

 

入选的与会者有着非常多元化的背景,囊括了多位因艺术或商业上的成功而受到认可的制片人。其中包括如英国Galleon Films,该公司曾制作由凯拉·奈特莉、海伦·米伦等明星出演的电影《柏林,我爱你》;正在制作罗伊·安德森新片《关于无穷》的挪威电影公司4 1/2;斯堪的纳维亚半岛最大的电影公司之一Anagram Sweden;近期和中国联合制片电视剧《昆仑归》的冰岛工作室 PegasusPictures;红牛下属的奥地利Terra Mater Factual Studios公司(代表作《象牙游戏》);西班牙优质电影公司A Contracorriente Films(代表作《杰出公民》)以及凭借《冷战》获得戛纳金棕榈提名的英国先锋电影公司Cinestaan

The selected participants present a rich array of producers recognized for their artistic or commercial successes and coming from the most diverse backgrounds. Among them are companies such as UK Galleon Films, produced Berlin, I Love You starring Keira Knightley and Hele Mirren, Norwegian 4 1/2 Films who is currently producing Roy Andersson’s new movieAbout Endlessness, Anagram Sweden, one of Scandinavia'sleading companies, Icelandic studioPegasus Pictures who recently co-produced with China the TV series Legend of Kunlun, Austrian production arm of Redbull Terra Mater Factual Studios (The Ivory Game), Spanish quality filmhouse A Contracorriente Films (The Distinguished Citizen) as well as the leading UK studio Cinestaan with its recent success of the last Cannes-winner Cold War.

 

中国公司中同样显示了其多样性。名单中既此前在柏林电影节大热的独立制片公司午夜失焦,本届戛纳电影节影评人周入围及闭幕影片《春江水暖》的制片公司工厂大门, 填补成长中的“合家欢”类型市场的动画工作室易动娱乐,成功引进《比悲伤更悲伤的故事》并创造票房奇迹的金艺唐人,也同样有如大地和博纳这样常规参与龙跃活动的大厂牌。Terra Mater Factual Studios的制片人Dinah Czezik-Müller表示:“非常高兴参加这个活动。能够了解到许多有关双方如何合作的信息让我们非常可能出产好的结果。”

The same diversity is reflected in the selection of the Chinese companies that include independent production houses like Midnight Blur, several projects selected by this year's Berlinale,  Factory Gate, who's Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountain is the closing picture of this year's Semaine de la Critique, animation studios such as Yi Animation filling the gap of the growing family entertainment market, Golden Dragon who just created the box-office miracle with the imported MoreThan Blue; but also bigger studios such as Dadi and Bona which by now see Bridging the Dragon as a useful exploration platform. Dinah Czezik-Müller from Terra Mater Factual Studios says: “It was great being here. A lot of information to also understand the way of working with each other that will hopefully lead to some good results.”

此外,龙跃今年还携手戛纳电影市场及挪威电影协会(Norwegian Film Institute)于518日举办了中欧影人交流酒会并对挪威优秀电影制片人进行推介。来自MIRAMAXARRI、万达影业、大地电影等公司的制片人以及诸多国际电影节负责人齐聚一堂,交流过去一年中的国际市场动态,增进彼此联系。

The Cannes event had its kick-off on Saturday, May 18 with a Networking Party on the ScandinavianTerrace hosted by the Norwegian Film Institute, one of the international supporters of the association. Producers from Miramax. ARRI, Wanda, Dadi, etc, and representatives from global international film festivals joined together for a fruitful night.

近期的中国电影市场风潮集中于翻拍,意大利票房冠军《完美陌生人》的中国翻拍版《来电狂响》取得了巨大成功(破6亿人民币票房),其制片公司新丽传媒也正式加入龙跃成为会员。观众越来越多样化、海外独立电影越来越受到欢迎、以及不断发展壮大中的中国艺术电影放映联盟,都启发了中外合作的新思路。我们希望,2019会成为众多筹备中的官方合拍影片的收获之年。与此同时,龙跃将进一步促进中国与世界电影产业的亲密接触。

Recent trends like the interest in remakes, that follow big successes like the remake of Italian blockbuster Perfect Strangers (which achieved more than 80M Euros box office), and the film’s production company New Classics Media just joined BTD as a member. The more and more diversified audience, that welcomes foreign indies like TheInvisible Guest or Shoplifters, as well as the country’s growing National Alliance of Art-house Cinemas, open new doors for collaborations with foreign companies and partners. We all hope this will be the year that will show the success of some of the official co-productions that are in the pipeline. Meanwhile Bridging the Dragon will continue to further encourage the film business between China and the world to get closer to each other.


5年前成立伊始,龙跃中欧制片人协会一直践行鼓励和促进中欧两大电影市场的合作这一目标。作为戛纳电影节电影市场的官方合作伙伴,协会相信促进相互了解和职业人脉的重要性。能够制作出适宜的内容,不仅依赖金融投资,还需要经验、相互信任和经常性的创意交流。有鉴于此,龙跃组织了大量不同的活动,从公开演讲、定期探讨与中国市场相关的发展和挑战、联谊与对接、每年一次的沉浸式中欧项目实验室,以及为会员量身定制的咨询服务,不一而足。

Since its creation 5 years ago, the Sino-European Producers' Association "Bridging the Dragon" has set itself the task to encourage and facilitate the cooperation between the two film markets. As the official partner of the Marché du Film in Cannes, the initiative believes in the importance of promoting knowledge and personal relationships. Producing suitable content is not only a result of a financial investment but it requires experience, mutual trust and often exchange of creative ideas. With this in mind, "Bridging the Dragon" organizes a large number of different events that go from public talks, regularly discussing the development and challenges related to the Chinese market, matchmaking get-togethers, an immersive yearly Sino-European Project lab and custom-made consultancy service for its members.
