"Chink"本意为缝隙，而一些白人会用“chink”来侮辱亚洲人，形容亚洲人的“小眼缝”。这一词语非常具有挑衅性。
Kat是这样描述该词的：
So this is a really offensive word. It's probably one of the worst words that can be used against an Asian person. It's pretty much on the same level as the "N" word in terms of offensiveness.
这真的是一个非常具有挑衅性的词，这应该是用来侮辱亚洲人的最恶毒的词语之一。从挑衅程度来看，这个词和那个“N”开头的词差不多。
注：“N” word指“nigger”，是对黑人的蔑称。
说到“chink”，Kat还举了这样一个例子。
一位美国作者在报道林书豪时，将标题写为“Chink in the Armor”。虽说这里的“chink”是一个双关语，标题本意为“盔甲的裂缝”，但由于林书豪是一位亚洲人，“chink”在这里就变了味道，这位作者也被立马炒了鱿鱼。
从表面看来，这一词语无伤大雅，毕竟还有Frenchman（法国人）、Irishman（爱尔兰人）这样的词。然而，“chinaman”（支那人）的说法正是在排华法案实施期间传开的，带有明显的侮辱色彩。当一个人用“chinaman”一词时，脑中浮现的是十分卑贱的华人形象。
When there was a lot of discrimination against Chinese people, this was the term they were using in a derogatory way. So basically, any person who's using this now, the image that they have in their head is a racist character of a Chinese person, rather than a human being.
在大肆歧视华人的时代，“chinaman”就是他们用来侮辱华人的词。今天还在用这个词的人，他们脑中联想到的是一个十分丑陋的华人漫画形象，而不是真正的中国人形象。
