As you all know, Tito Arecchi passed away on the past February 15th.
Tito was the scientific advisor for some of us, and ne certainly was a scientific reference and a friend for all of us.
Tito’s invaluable contributions in the fields of nonlinear optics, laser physics, nonlinear oscillations, bifurcations, dynamical chaos, synchronization, stochastic processes and noise in nonlinear systems, space-time chaos, nonlinear systems with delay (among others) have largely and in several occasions inspired, in a way or in another, our own activities, scientific trajectories and interests.
Tito received the degree of electrical engineering at the Polytechnic of Milan in 1957, but he always considered himself to be a physicist.
And, indeed, he became physics professor at the University of Pavia in 1970, and from 1975 until his retirement in 2008, he was a physics professor at the University of Florence.
He also served as a guest professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1969 to 1970 and was invited to IBM research laboratories in San Jose and Zurich.
