1 凡在轭下作仆人的，当以自己主人配受十分的恭敬，免得神的名和道理，被人亵渎。

All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God's name and our teaching may not be slandered.

2 仆人有信道的主人，不可因为与他是弟兄就轻看他。更要加意服事他。因为得服事之益处的，是信道蒙爱的。你要以此教训人，劝勉人。

Those who have believing masters are not to show less respect for them because they are brothers. Instead, they are to serve them even better, because those who benefit from their service are believers, and dear to them. These are the things you are to teach and urge on them.

3 若有人传异教，不服从我们主耶稣基督纯正的话，与那合乎敬虔的道理。

If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching,

4 他是自高自大，一无所知，专好问难争辩言词，从此就生出嫉妒，分争，毁谤，妄疑，

he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions

5 并那坏了心术，失丧真理之人的争竞。他们以敬虔为得利的门路。

and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

6 然而敬虔加上知足的心便是大利了。

But godliness with contentment is great gain.

7 因为我们没有带什么到世上来，也不能带什么去。

For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.

8 只要有衣有食，就当知足。

But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.

9 但那些想要发财的人，就陷在迷惑，落在网罗，和许多无知有害的私欲里，叫人沉在败坏和灭亡中。

People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction.

10 贪财是万恶之根。有人贪恋钱财，就被引诱离了真道，用许多愁苦把自己刺透了。

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

仆人要尊敬自己的主人，如果主人是信神的，更要好好服侍他。不听从基督的话语和教训，就会偏离真道，此等人以敬虔为得利的门路并引发纷争。若有知足的心，敬虔就会成为极大的益处，然而贪恋钱财的人必致灭亡。
