The first-phase complex is a three-dimensional grid, based on a 5.4m by 4.8m unit in plan, which follows the slope. The units of twenty apartments step back onto the slope, and the roofs of the lower levels are used as terraces; the result is a set of independent units, each with its own personality. Vegetation penetrates into the interior of the building, allowing its residents to live in harmony with nature. In subsequent projects, Ando has frequently employed the idea of the rooftop terrace. The second-phase complex is situated next to the first-phase complex, but both are independent of each other.
