This week we will learn some expressions about pastimes and hobbies. The second thing that we will learn is about giving your opinion. This dialogue has two characters: Melissa and Jake. They are at home and they are talking about their vacation.
本周我们将会学习关于消遣和喜好的表达。这次我们来了解如何发表意见。这段对话中有两个人物:玛丽莎和杰克。他们在家讨论他们的假期。
JAKE: Where should we take a vacation this year? Let’s decide soon.
杰克: 今年假期去哪过?咱们快点定一下。
MELISSA: Well, I’d like to go somewhere warm. How about the beach? Or we could rent a cabin on the lake.
玛丽莎: 嗯,我想去个暖和的地方。海边咋样?或者去租个湖边小木屋。
JAKE: You want to go to the beach, again? I want to ski this winter. How about a compromise? What about traveling to the Alps in Europe next April? We can find a ski resort on a lake.
杰克: 你又想去海边?这个冬天我想滑雪。咱们折中一下怎么样?明年四月一起去欧洲的阿尔卑斯山?咱们能在湖边找到滑雪场。
MELISSA: Oh, we’ve never been to Europe before! But I don’t know if it will be sunny and warm then. I need to do some research first. That will help me make up my mind.
玛丽莎: 哦,我从没去过欧洲!也就不知道那里是冷是热。我得先了解了解。从而帮我理清思绪。
短文讲解:
• Decide
is a useful verb to express choice. The idiom “to make up my mind” also means “to decide”.
Decide是一个很实用的动词,用来表达对事物的选择。谚语to make up my mind意思是理清思绪,做决定。
• How about
This phrase presents an alternative. This phrase can befollowed by a subject plus a conjugated verb or by a noun: How about we go swimming? / How about a movie tonight?
How about 用来建议另一种选择。这个短语可以后接人或物+变形的动词,或者后接一个名词。
• Many verbs express opinions:
to think / to believe / to supposed/ to assume, etc.
They are not all synonymous. For example, “to suppose” and “to assume” express that the speaker has a preconceived idea。
eg:He came back late from work, so I assumed that traffic was bad. /I suppose that may not have beenthe case, and that he might just have had a lot of work.
用来表达观点意见的动词很多:to think / to believe / tosupposed/ to assume, etc. 它们并非都是同义词。举例来说,to suppose 和 to assume 表达的是说话者已经有自己观点。
