The detained individual has been temporarily charged with one count of “indecent assault” (or “sexual assault”), and is set to appear in court at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Court on the following day, the 10th of June. The incident is reported to have taken place outdoors.

Emphasising the severity of the offence, the police reiterated that under the Criminal Offences Ordinance, Cap 200, Section 122 of Hong Kong’s legislation, “indecent assault” is deemed a serious crime and upon conviction, can carry a maximum penalty of up to 10 years of imprisonment.

Law enforcement agencies stress a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of indecent assault, asserting their commitment to stringent enforcement of the law and warning citizens against attempting to challenge the legal system.
