安息日，耶稣到一个法利赛人的首领家里去吃饭，他们就窥探他。

One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the houseof a prominent Pharisee, he was being carefully watched.

2 在他面前有一个患水臌的人。

There in front of him was a man suffering fromdropsy.

3 耶稣对律法师和法利赛人说，安息日治病，可以不可以。

Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in thelaw, 'Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?'

4 他们却不言语。耶稣就治好那人，叫他走了。

But they remained silent. So taking hold of theman, he healed him and sent him away.

5 便对他们说，你们中间谁有驴或有牛，在安息日掉在井里，不立时拉他上来呢？

Then he asked them, 'If one of you has a son oran ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pullhim out?'

6 他们不能对答这话。

And they had nothing to say.

7 耶稣见所请的客拣择首位，就用比喻对他们说，

When he noticed how the guests picked the placesof honor at the table, he told them this parable:

8 你被人请去赴婚姻的筵席，不要坐在首位上。恐怕有比你尊贵的客，被他请来。

'When someone invites you to a wedding feast, donot take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may havebeen invited.

9 那请你们的人前来对你说，让座给这一位吧。你就羞羞惭惭的退到末位上去了。

If so, the host who invited both of you willcome and say to you, `Give this man your seat.' Then, humiliated, you will haveto take the least important place.

10 你被请的时候，就去坐在末位上，好叫那请你的人来，对你说，朋友，请上坐，那时你在同席的人面前，就有光彩了。

But when you are invited, take the lowest place,so that when your host comes, he will say to you, `Friend, move up to a betterplace.' Then you will be honored in the presence of all your fellow guests.

11 因为凡自高的必降为卑。自卑的必升为高。

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled,and he who humbles himself will be exalted.'

12 耶稣又对请他的人说，你摆设午饭，或晚饭，不要请你的朋友，弟兄，亲属，和富足的邻舍。恐怕他们也请你，你就得了报答。

Then Jesus said to his host, 'When you give aluncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, oryour rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will berepaid.

13 你摆设筵席，倒要请那贫穷的，残废的，瘸腿的，瞎眼的，你就有福了。

But when you give a banquet, invite the poor,the crippled, the lame, the blind,

14 因为他们没有什么可报答你。到义人复活的时候，你要得着报答。

and you will be blessed. Although they cannotrepay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.'

水臌（2节）： 希腊文“hudropikos”指体内积水肿胀的病，对观福音的作者中，只有身为医生的路加用此医学名词来称呼这个病。
