I'll share you a small incident which is also a real life example of “Placebo Effect”.
My friend was the only person who would come with me for workout and he was indeed my gym partner and motivational factor. In 2009, I was weighing around 143 lbs was able to lift somewhere around 170 lbs for bench press but my friend who was weighing around nearly 100 lbs couldn't do it.
He would insist me to take out few plates away from the bar. But I would never do it rather I used to promise him that I will help him out to lift the weight.
When he tries to lift, I used to keep just one finger from each hand under the bar, faking that I'm helping him to lift with my hands. But the reality is he is the one who is lifting the entire mass.
